Namaste! I am Apsara Karki, the founder and operator of Season Homestay. I have been working in the related industry for over ten years and have experience in travel and tours all over Nepal.
Well, season homestay is a brilliant platform if you want to explore Nepal's various natural, historical, and cultural aspects. Located in Ramkot, Nagarjun, Kathmandu, it is a wonderful location where you can explore the scenic beauty, heavenly pleasure, and magical blend of culture and religion.
We are at an easily accessible location at the top of Kathmandu often famous for nunnery. Further, the popular monk's monastery around Kathmandu is another spotting location, and surrounding this monastery the season homestay lies in the eastern part of Kathmandu, about 29.2 km which takes about 45 min to reach.
It is 13 km from the International Airport, taking approximately 40 minutes to get there. Similarly, another popular nunnery in the close location of this monastery is also full of natural beauty, Tibetan architecture, and cultural sites.
Interestingly, the place is surrounded by a lush green valley. The picturesque topography is remarkable and attracts visitors to the area around the nunnery. Also, it is very peaceful and quiet, one can visit it for meditation practices and to learn about Buddhism.
Not only that, the architecture and the beauty of the monastery force people to snap pictures. It also focuses on giving education to Buddhist children. It is built on the topmost part of the hill. We can also find different art and sculpture inside the monastery. The monastery serves as a monastic school, where, alongside Buddhist practices.
Further, the season homestay is also an orphanage care and monastery/nunnery education where around 150 monk students (male) and 7 teachers come to the monastery daily. Senior monks also teach there.
It's a male monastery. Each class consists of 15 to 25 monk students, with each class lasting 45 minutes. They follow a regular curriculum, including subjects like English, science, math, morals, and Nepali.
Not only as a traveler or guest, you can also visit Season Homestay as a volunteer. Volunteers get an opportunity to be part of the planning and assisting in teaching or helping.
Talking about rooms and facilities, each volunteer is provided with a twin-sharing room equipped with a private toilet and shower. The rooms are housed in a separate guest house above the classrooms, and all rooms have WiFi. The rooms are cozy and simple, with fresh air coming through the windows and a view of the jungle at the back.
If you need to buy something, there is a small shop inside the monastery that sells cold drinks, noodles, and coffee. The monastery has a large compound, and the gate is always closed for security reasons. The monastery is open to the public only on Saturdays from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm; on other days, it is always closed to outside visitors. In-depth description of the tasks (if at all possible, daily)
Homestay to the nunnery is a walking distance of 20 minutes. At the destination, we can see the sunrise and sunset. There is also a facility to transport you by motorbike to Kalupandey Park and Switzerland Park which is 2km away from the homestay. You can also experience the scenic beauty of rhododendrons, flora, and fauna there.
There is also a biking track through to the lush green jungle next to my house for you to enjoy. Also, you will get a chance to interact with locals about their lifestyles, culture, and how they feel living in that place.
Behind my house, there is a vegetable farm (which you are welcome to help at if you want to experience the local farming) the north side of the jungle, and the south monastery. We can also organize the Nagarjun jungle safari at Shivapuri National Park.
Besides these, you can also explore Pashupati Nath Temple, Swayambhu Nath Stupa, and Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square among others which are located in Kathmandu.
Nepal the country of the highest peak Mount Everest is a self-sufficient country with natural beauty and cultural and historical diversities, one should definitely be a part of this amazing journey. You get an opportunity to explore many things which are rare to see in other parts of the world.
Nepal’s beauty and unique features will make you come here again and again once you visit here. You must give it a try once.
